Midnight Runner

This is part of DeviantArt's 'Capturing Change' project, in association with SONY, to document the culture and life of a city and how much that affects its citizens.

For that, myself and three other Deviants, received brand new SONY Alpha mirrorless cameras to take out on the road.

What an amazing initiative from DA and such a pleasure for me to be part of it!

THE PHOTO

One of the cities I travelled to for this assignment was Balneário Camboriú, which is an fast growing metropolis by the sea. There I wanted to capture its wall of buildings, that seems to go on endlessly, in contrast with natural elements, such as the ocean, and/or human activity. I found lots of people exercising at all hours of the day (and night!), despite traffic and pollution. It's like they won't let their lifestyles change as much as the city wants them to.


THE SHOOT

I went out late at night looking for some activity at the beach and I don't mean tourists partying. I mean city life, citizen life. Plus, I was looking forward to try out the low light abilities of the SONY a7RII.

This was very late and dark, so I set the ISO to a high value and shot in aperture priority mode, with a wide aperture to get as much light as possible. I had my tripod with me but decided to challenge the camera, with its stabilization tech, and see how sharp the shot would be. Well, it was surprisingly good and it nailed this composition right there. The colors are beautiful too but I fell for this monochrome feel... hope you like it.
